Here's a quick sketch of my 1st idea for how to connect the pop-tab half-sleeve to the leather jacket. It shows a strand of leather shoelace stitched to the jacket, with sequential loops (stitches between loops). If someone has a better, more secure alternative, I'd like to know about it.
